Core Production Process

The typical industrial process for phosphoric acid production is the wet process, which involves the reaction of phosphate rock with sulfuric acid:

 

Ca3​(PO4​)2​+3H2​SO4​→2H3​PO4​+3CaSO4​⋅2H2​O

 

Step 1: Raw Material Preparation

Phosphate rock is crushed, screened, and stored in raw material silos.

Particle size and purity are controlled to ensure efficient reaction.

Step 2: Acidulation / Digestion

Crushed phosphate rock is reacted with concentrated sulfuric acid in digesters.

The reaction produces phosphoric acid solution and gypsum (CaSO₄·2H₂O) as a byproduct.

Temperature and acid-to-rock ratio are strictly controlled for maximum conversion.

Step 3: Solid-Liquid Separation

The reaction mixture is pumped to filter presses or vacuum filters to separate gypsum from the acid solution.

Efficient separation ensures high purity of phosphoric acid.

Step 4: Acid Concentration (Optional)

Phosphoric acid solution can be concentrated via multi-effect evaporators to reach the desired industrial grade (e.g., 50–54% P₂O₅).

Concentration must balance energy consumption and product quality.

Step 5: Storage and Distribution

Finished acid is stored in corrosion-resistant tanks.

Distribution systems are equipped with pipelines, pumps, and flow meters to deliver acid safely.
