Process name:
The trona method is different from the ammonia-alkali method and the combined alkali method. The trona method is a process route for directly mining trona ore to process and produce soda ash (sodium carbonate). Relying on trona mineral resources, the process is short and the cost is low.
 
Step by step disassembly flow chart
1. Raw material: trona ore
The main component of underground trona deposits is sesquisole (trona stone), mixed with sediment and impurities, and is the only raw material for this process.
2. The first process: crushing, dissolving and crystallizing
Crushing: Crushing large pieces of trona ore into fine materials to increase the contact area;
Dissolution: leach soluble alkali components in the ore with water, and filter and separate insoluble sediment impurities;
Crystallization: The soda extraction solution is cooled and crystallized to separate out pure sesquite crystals.
3. Intermediate product: sesquidaline
 
Industry standard name: Sodium sesquicarbonate (sesquicoda) is the core effective mineral component of trona ore. It also contains sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate and crystal water. It is an intermediate semi-finished product for the production of soda ash.
4. Second process: Calcination (high temperature heating)
Send sesquite into a calciner for high temperature decomposition, and a chemical reaction occurs:
The carbon dioxide decomposed by crystal water and sodium bicarbonate is all turned into gas and evaporated;
The solid residue is anhydrous sodium carbonate.
5. Final product: soda ash product anhydrous sodium carbonate, collectively referred to as soda ash and soda in the industry, is widely used in glass, papermaking, printing and dyeing, chemical industry, detergent and other industries.
 
Core characteristics of the process
Resource-dependent: There must be natural alkali mineral resources (mainly in Henan and Inner Mongolia in China), which cannot be used in non-mineral areas;
The process is simple: no ammonia, limestone and other auxiliary materials are used, and solid waste and waste liquid emissions are significantly reduced compared with the ammonia-alkali method;
Energy consumption is concentrated on calcination: only dissolution and crystallization is the precursor, and the core energy-consuming link is high-temperature calcination of half alkali to remove water and carbon dioxide;
High purity of the product: After dissolution and impurity removal + crystallization purification, heavy/light soda ash products can be produced after calcination.
