Before determining the dose, first calculate the required chlorine output (g/h) of the sodium hypochlorite generator-this ensures the device's capacity matches your water treatment scale. The formula is applicable to municipal water plants, sewage treatment plants, swimming pools, and hospitals:
Required Chlorine Output (g/h) = Design Water Volume (t/d) × Total Chlorine Demand Concentration (mg/L) ÷ 24 Hours
Formula Parameter Explanation
Design Water Volume (t/d): Daily water treatment capacity (e.g., a small water supply station handles 500 tons/day; a swimming pool with 100m³ water volume and 1 turnover/day = 100 tons/day).
Total Chlorine Demand Concentration (mg/L): The chlorine concentration needed to achieve disinfection (varies by water type, refer to the standard/empirical values below).
24 Hours: Converts daily demand to hourly output (matches the generator's continuous operation mode).
Example: A small groundwater supply station (design water volume = 300t/d) uses a chlorine dose of 0.8mg/L.
