Name: Ferrous Sulfate Production Line
Source: Pyrite‑based sulfuric acid production process; ferrous sulfate is a by‑product from the production of titanium dioxide via the reaction between concentrated sulfuric acid and ilmenite.
Capacity: Rely on by‑products from titanium dioxide units; an independent purification and crystallization unit can also be constructed, with EPC‑supported purification and dehydration production lines.
Ferrous Sulfate Production Line Process Flow
Raw materials: ilmenite, concentrated sulfuric acid; main product: titanium dioxide, by‑product: ferrous sulfate.
Reaction logic: Ilmenite (FeO·TiO₂) undergoes high‑temperature acidolysis with concentrated sulfuric acid to produce titanyl sulfate and ferrous sulfate.
1. Ilmenite pretreatment: crushing and grinding of ilmenite;
2. Concentrated sulfuric acid acidolysis: high‑temperature acidolysis reaction of mixed ilmenite and concentrated sulfuric acid;
3. Leaching and sedimentation: water is added for leaching, and slag is removed through solid‑liquid separation; an acidic solution containing ferrous sulfate and titanyl sulfate is obtained;
4. Freeze crystallization: cooling at low temperature to precipitate ferrous sulfate heptahydrate crystals;
5. Solid‑liquid separation: vacuum filtration / centrifuge separation to obtain crude ferrous sulfate heptahydrate crystals; the mother liquor is returned to the main titanium dioxide process;
6. Purification and washing: crude green vitriol is washed to remove titanium and free acid impurities;
7. Optional section: dehydration and drying: high‑temperature dehydration of heptahydrate green vitriol to produce monohydrate ferrous sulfate (feed‑grade);
8. Sieving and packaging: packaging of crystal / powder finished products.
Characteristics of Ferrous Sulfate Production Line
1. Mostly built as a by‑product supporting titanium dioxide plants; independent EPC units for by‑product purification and crystallization are also available for construction.
2. Capable of producing low‑cost industrial‑grade ferrous sulfate heptahydrate only. A drying‑recrystallization section can be added to upgrade to high‑value‑added feed‑grade ferrous sulfate monohydrate.
3. Mother liquor is recycled for reuse to reduce waste‑liquid discharge. EPC services can deliver complete turn‑key units covering purification and drying processes.
Uses of Ferrous Sulfate Products
1. Agriculture: Iron‑supplement fertilizer, for improving alkaline soil and preventing iron‑deficiency chlorosis in plants;
2. Water treatment and purification: Used as a flocculant for decolorization and phosphorus removal in sewage treatment;
3. Feed additive: Feed‑grade ferrous sulfate monohydrate for iron supplementation in animals;
4. Chemical raw material: For manufacturing iron oxide pigments and iron salts;
5. Soil remediation and metallurgy.
