Source: Hydrogen and chlorine from chlor‑alkali unit synthesize hydrogen chloride gas; calcium carbide hydrolysis produces acetylene; acetylene undergoes addition reaction with hydrogen chloride to yield VCM (vinyl chloride monomer); VCM monomer is subject to polymerization reaction to produce polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin, which is the final core product of the chlor‑alkali‑calcium carbide industrial chain.
Process Route of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Production Line
1. Hydrogen Chloride Preparation: Hydrogen chloride gas is produced in a combined‑type synthesis furnace using H₂ and Cl₂ by‑products from chlor‑alkali electrolysis.
2. Acetylene Preparation: Calcium carbide (CaC₂) reacts with water to generate acetylene, which is purified to remove sulfur and phosphorus impurities.
3. VCM Synthesis: Acetylene reacts with hydrogen chloride in converters to obtain crude VCM, which is rectified and purified to produce high‑purity vinyl chloride monomer.
4. Polymerization Process: Initiators and dispersants are added to VCM monomer for suspension polymerization reaction inside polymerization kettles.
5. Post‑treatment: Slurry is discharged, and finished PVC resin is obtained through stripping for residual VCM removal, centrifugal dehydration, drying and screening.
6. Packaging: Materials are stored in silos and automatically packaged into bagged finished products.
Main Applications of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
1. Rigid Products: Water supply and drainage pipes and fittings, plastic‑steel door and window profiles, plates, chemical anti‑corrosion pipes and fittings.
2. Flexible Products: Insulating sheaths for wires and cables, plastic films, artificial leather, flexible hoses.
3. Industrial anti‑corrosion plates, plastic toys, various injection‑molded plastic products.
Process Characteristics of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Production Line
1. Calcium‑carbide‑based suspension polymerization PVC process, suitable for regions with abundant calcium carbide resources, and has strong market demand for projects in Africa and the Middle East overseas.
2. VCM monomer is toxic, flammable and explosive. A complete VCM recovery system is indispensable for the whole plant to reduce material loss and ensure safety and environmental protection.
3. Independent construction of the PVC polymerization section is available; it can also undertake EPC turnkey projects for the integrated full‑chain of chlor‑alkali‑VCM‑PVC.
4. Multi‑grade PVC resin of SG series can be produced, and grade switching can be realized by adjusting polymerization process parameters.
