Name: Potassium Sulfate Production Equipment
Process Logic: Potassium chloride (KCl) and concentrated sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) are fed into a Mannheim furnace for reaction under high‑temperature heating. The main product is potassium sulfate, and the by‑product is dust‑laden hydrogen chloride gas. Potassium sulfate is cooled, crushed, screened and granulated to obtain granular finished potassium sulfate. After cooling and dust removal, hydrogen chloride gas is absorbed by water to produce by‑product hydrochloric acid. The Mannheim process is the mainstream industrial process for potassium sulfate production. It can be equipped with a hydrochloric acid recovery system, and the complete plant is available as an EPC turn‑key project.
Complete Process Flow of Potassium Sulfate Production Line
1. Raw Material Feeding: Potassium chloride (KCl) and concentrated sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) are proportionally fed into the Mannheim furnace for high‑temperature reaction.
2. Two streams of materials are produced from the reaction
• Solid phase: Crude potassium sulfate generated → cooling → intermediate potassium sulfate product → crushing, screening, granulation → finished granular potassium sulfate;
• Gas phase: Dust‑laden hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas generated → cooling, dust removal and purification to obtain pure HCl gas → water absorption → by‑product industrial hydrochloric acid.
• By‑product: Industrial hydrochloric acid (HCl), which can be sold externally or supplied to other chemical units of the plant.
Main Applications of Potassium Sulfate
1. Agricultural Fertilizer (largest application): Chlorine‑free potassium fertilizer, special fertilizer for chlorine‑sensitive crops including tobacco, fruit trees, grapes, tea, potatoes and vegetables; used as raw material for compound fertilizer.
2. Industrial Applications: Raw material for potassium salt chemical manufacturing, glass production, dyes, and pharmaceutical intermediates.
Process Characteristics of Potassium Sulfate Production Line
1. Mature and stable Mannheim‑furnace concentrated‑sulfuric‑acid conversion process. The product has low chloride ion content and is suitable for high‑end chlorine‑free potassium fertilizer.
2. One set of plant yields granular potassium sulfate as the main product while recovering by‑product hydrochloric acid, improving the economic benefits of the project.
3. Operating conditions feature high temperature and strong corrosion; special anti‑corrosion materials are required for the furnace body, flue gas pipelines and absorption system.
4. Flue gas purification and hydrochloric acid recovery are key points of the whole plant, and supporting environmental‑protection treatment for tail gas is required.
