Source: Potassium chloride (KCl) and water are used as raw materials for ion‑exchange membrane electrolysis, producing 32% liquid caustic potash (KOH), chlorine gas and hydrogen gas. The 32% KOH is concentrated to obtain 50% KOH, which is then flaked to produce solid KOH.

1. Raw Material Supply: Brine preparation from potassium chloride (KCl) and H₂O;
2. Ion‑Exchange Membrane Electrolysis: Potassium chloride brine is electrolyzed in electrolyzers, yielding three streams: 32% KOH liquid caustic soda, chlorine gas (Cl₂), and hydrogen gas (H₂);
3. Potassium Hydroxide Concentration‑Flaking Process
• 32% KOH → Evaporative Concentration → 50% KOH;
• Further evaporation and flaking of 50% KOH → Solid flake‑form KOH;
Main Applications of Potassium Hydroxide
1. 32% liquid KOH: Battery electrolyte, raw material for potassium‑salt chemicals (potassium carbonate, potassium phosphate), daily‑use detergents, textile printing and dyeing, pharmaceutical intermediates;
2. 50% liquid KOH: Fine chemicals, oil saponification;
3. Solid flake KOH: Deep processing of potassium fertilizers, electroplating, alkaline batteries, dyes, petroleum desulfurization;
