Brief Process Flow
Air Drying: Air passes through the drying tower to remove moisture so as to prevent subsequent equipment corrosion and acid mist formation.
Sulfur‑Burning Section: Liquid sulfur undergoes complete combustion in the sulfur‑burning furnace to generate high‑temperature sulfur dioxide furnace gas; the waste‑heat boiler recovers heat to produce steam.
Catalytic Conversion: The furnace gas is heated to 420‑450 ℃ via heat exchange and fed into the converter. Under the action of vanadium pentoxide catalyst, sulfur dioxide is oxidized into sulfur trioxide. The double‑conversion process is adopted, achieving an overall conversion rate of over 99.7%.
Cooling / Condensation Section: High‑temperature sulfur trioxide gas is cooled by heat exchangers. Gaseous SO₃ can be directly delivered for sulfonation service; deep cooling and condensation yield finished liquid sulfur trioxide.
Tail‑Gas Treatment: Residual waste gas is treated to meet emission standards before discharge.

Safety and Process Characteristics
‑ High corrosivity; the complete set of equipment is acid‑resistant and anti‑corrosive. Sulfur trioxide immediately forms sulfuric acid mist upon contact with water, so strict water control is implemented throughout the system.
‑ Exothermic reactions enable sufficient heat recovery for steam generation, resulting in low energy consumption.
‑ Liquid sulfur trioxide solidifies at 16.8 ℃. Pipelines require trace heating and thermal insulation to avoid freezing and pipeline blockage.
